20-05-2010 There have been many tragic incidents that have occured within the last few weeks, involving young teenagers and the consumption of alcohol. Are we aware of what our youth are doing these days? Do our youth understand the issues involved around alcohol and its' affects?
James Webster aged 16, had taken a bottle of vodka to a mates 18th birthday party and never woke up afterwards. a possibility of his cause of death could have been the fact that he never acted responsibly? He wasn't aware of the result after drinking with his mates in a car. Could this have been the result of 'peer pressure'?
Webster was considered and known to many for his atheletic ability. This unfortunate incident is one of many that has been added to the statistics of teenage drinking.
Another issue involved around the discussion is returning the legal drinking age back to 20 years old. Many teens have ended up in hospital due to alcohol-related problems. Teenagers are not aware of what they are drinking and how. Would it be possible to teach our youth to drink responsibly without the need to get themselves 'wasted'?
What are your thoughts on the legal drinking age? Leave it as is?
